Atkins Diet Outline
The main claim to fame that Atkins diet has is that it limits the carbohydrate intake of a meal. The meal inclusions like cereal, sugar, some starchy vegetables like potato, pasta and bread are excluded from meals
The reason given for this exclusion of an important food group is that the main source for energy of our bodies is carbohydrates, if they are not present in the body, that is the only occasion when the body will look for other sources of energy, and that is the time that body fats start burning. This is called ketosis in medical terms, also the carbohydrates play a major role in te creation of insulin, which is the element to convert the excess of carbohydrates into fat, thus it limits fat production as well.
There is no restriction on how much you eat, there is a whole range of food products from the Atkins company themselves low in carbs and includes food like chicken, steak, duck, egg, salads and cheeses. The choice is unlimited as long as carbs are limited.
The biggest problem for an Atkins dieter is that the diet is high fat and there is no complete guide as to what kind of fat to eat, also the diet is extremely low carb.
Ketosis is itself also question and there are e=several question over the healthiness of the process, some studies suggesting that certain organs are often overworked in the process of ketosis.
