The Cabbage Soup Diet

The reason for this is that the Cabbage soup diet is very very low calorie diet whose mainstay is cabbage soup along with a little amount of other foods which include a diet of vegetables, fruits along with restricted amount of proteins and carbs. The typical cycle is to follow the diet for a good 7 days, and then regular eating is resumed for 14 days before going on the diet again for another 7 days or something. Though there are quite a few claims that the Cabbage Soup diet is good for its fat burning properties, but this is a myth, the reason that this diet causes a lot of weight loss is that the diet provides no more than 800 – 900 calories at the max in a day.

Cabbage Soup - Diet Recipe

The mainstay that is the soup consists of:

3 onions,

1 head of celery,

1 green bell pepper,

Half a cabbage,

2 tins of tomatoes,

1 pack of onion soup mix

And 3 pints of vegetable stock.

Herbs and spices are not recommended. This is sufficient for about 6 servings.

What You Eat on the Cabbage Soup Diet

  • Day 1
    Unlimited cabbage soup; unlimited fruits (most allowed, except bananas.)
  • Day 2
    Home-made cabbage soup, plus other vegetables, including a baked potato with butter for dinner (potatoes are off-limits on other days)
  • Day 3
    Unlimited cabbage soup; unlimited fruits (most allowed, except bananas.)
  • Day 4
    Home-made cabbage soup, plus anything up to 6 bananas and fat-free milk.
  • Day 5
    Home-made cabbage soup, plus 6 tomatoes and up to 450 grams of meat or fish.
  • Day 6
    Home-made cabbage soup, plus unlimited lean beef or chicken and vegetables.
  • Day 7
    Home-made cabbage soup, plus unlimited brown rice, pure fruit juice, and vegetables.

Advantages

This is one of the best diets for a detoxification and as a break from the average diet of junk food. The soup is home made and is good for weight loss and for satiety. The cooking is required thou, and any vegetable soup will do instead of just cabbage.

Verdict

This is a good diet for a break of about a week from the regular food that you consume or if the weight loss that you aspire is not very significant. This is however not nutritionally very sound so cannot be continued for a long time.
