Volumetrics
Volumetrics is a word which basically came to common knowledge from the book of Dr Barbara Rolls and Robert Barnett “The Volumetrics Weight-Control Plan : Feel Full on Fewer Calories”, which was published in 2001 and is still popular.
It is not a prescription but a concept of the energy density and satiety of food. They are foods which are dense meaning thereby that there is supply of high number of calories per volume. One way to loose weight is to cling on to low dense foods so that less calories are taken in.
This concept suggests food that is generally high in water content and fibre basically meaning that the food is fewer calories dense. This whole concept is not about following a strict diet plan. All it includes is the fact that people get to learn to choose right food. This is a well established concept among the medical fraternity. Foods like whole wheat pasta and brown rice that are rich in fibre are encouraged. It also emphasizes on food of high water content such as soups and casseroles. Processed food should be taken in careful quantity and it is more energy dense.
