Disadvantages of a Surgery
There are various methods of weight reduction. Some simple, while others involve intricate procedures. Surgery figures among the later. It has been opined worldwide that surgery should be resorted to as the last measure.
There are various types of surgery aimed at weight reduction. Those which involve gastrointestinal surgery are called Bariatic surgery. It leads to modification with the digestive system and how it functions in a way that appetite can be altered. Such a surgery helps achieve higher rate of weight loss with increased efficiency. Usually surgeons divide it in three parts, namely, restrictive, malabsorptive, and combined restrictive.
The most important and grave disadvantage of having any such surgery is chances of ending up dead on the operation table. Though it is rare, it does happen very seldom. Among other complications, a person may develop infection, ulcer, hair loss, nausea and not to mention sagging skin.
Such a procedure is considered to make the patient more prone to heart attack. Also, weight loss surgery becomes effective only over a period of time, thus expecting an overnight change is something which will not come true. When a person tries to go back to original eating habits and starts taking food with high fat content, the body can reject it, this is called dumping and it can happen in a painful way, thus once operated upon, it is absolutely indispensable that the person restricts himself to the prescribed diet by the dietician.
It is suggested by one and many that before taking the plunge one should make up his/her mind over whether he/she wants to go for the surgery or not as it will have long-term effects on the physiology of the person.
